Cathedrals of Cloth – exhibition soundscape

I’ve recently been commissioned to create a soundscape for a large exhibition about the textile mills in Stroud. An undertaking which involved recording various people recalling their times working in the mills and readings from the accounts of historical events connected to the mills. Blending this with raw field recordings of the surviving machinery and other ambient sounds taken from these amazing old buildings, the idea was to weave a seamless soundscape that would immerse the visitor and bring an insight into some of the harsh working conditions but also the tender moments in the lives of those connected with this major industry.
